The Challenge:
ThemeDream was hired to bring new liveliness and creativity to their corporate client’s annual department retreat in Napa wine country.

The Results:
ThemeDream transformed an empty hotel ballroom into a Retro 70’s & 80’s “glow” themed playground. One corner featured “The Totally Rad 80’s Lounge” showcasing a 20 foot wall of Atari 2600 box cover art, a retro 1980’s TV and Atari 2600 gaming console with classic game cartridges such as Asteroids and Space Invaders. The vintage TV also shelved a retro VHS player and old video tapes of 80’s movie classics such “Back to the Future”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Sixteen Candles”. The seating area was furnished with LED benches and LED coffee tables displaying interactive 80’s themed toys such as glowing Rubik’s Cubes and LED Tetris puzzle blocks. Guests relived their youth in the “Retro Arcade Corner” with iconic games such as Pacman, Galaga, Frogger and Centipede. The other corner featured “The Far Out 70’s Lounge” showcasing lava lamps, oversized bean bags, cassette-tape-shaped coffee tables, retro boom box centerpieces w/ vintage cassette tapes of iconic 80’s albums such as Michael Jackson “Thriller”, Journey “Escape” and Def Leppard “Hysteria”. Guests could play vinyl records on a functioning 70’s vinyl record console with iconic albums such as Bee Gees “Saturday Night Fever”, Pink Floyd “The Wall” and Eagles “Hotel California”. And it wouldn’t be The 70’s without a “Pinball Alley” of old-school retro pinball machines that kept the ball rolling all night! 

The experience included two memorabilia photo booths, one 70’s themed and one 80’s themed. In back corner of the room, guests could throw on a big-hair-band wig, grab a totally bitchin’ electric guitar, step on a full-blown concert stage equipped with LED wall and cold spark fireworks, and took photos rocking out with a KISS Band Gene Simmons impersonator! On the 80’s side of the room, guests could sport a glowing futuristic helmet, glove and disc weapon while posing with an OG 80’s TRON heroine in front of an original art, video game backdrop of TRON light cycles, tank and spaceships. 

The middle of the room featured a four-sided GLO BAR w/ LED bar walls, surrounding LED floors, LED bar rounds with LED centerpieces, LED-illuminated cocktail menus and cocktails served with, of course, LED ice cubes! The GLO BAR’s specialty cocktails included playful names such as “Bad to the Bone” (whiskey) , “Another One Bites the Dust” (tequila), and “Pour Some Sugar on Me” (rum). While guests sipped on their GLO drinks, they enjoyed playing 70’s and 80’s movie, TV show, and music trivia on large flat screens above the bar. The GLO BAR also featured LED table games such as LED ping pong, LED air hockey, and LED foosball that got very competitive as more glowing booze got consumed. In the middle of the event, to keep the festive energy up, LED sticks were handed out to all guests for a very memorable large group photo. 

To keep people on their toes, a 70’s costumed-dance instructor led the dancefloor in several fun line dances throughout the night to 70’s & 80’s music anthems such as Bee Gee’s “Stayin’ Alive”, Commodores “Brick House” and Michael Jackson “Thriller”. For those who had worked up a late evening appetite, guests grazed at The “Frogger Fries” Bar and enjoyed “Street (Fighter) Corn Dogs”, “Sonic Sloppy Sliders” and “Super Mario Munchies”. For those with a sweet tooth, the “Donkey Kong Candy Store” featured retro candy such as Pop Rocks, PEZ, Ring Pops, and Pixy Stix. Food station signage was presented in a retro-TV box display with vintage VHS-tape-themed place cards noting condiments and dietary restriction options. Overall, it was a totally rad time had by all!
